Cut Out Cookies

This simple sugar cookie recipe originated in a Home Economics class in the 1970’s. It has since been perfected and passed down a generation to us and we are happy to share it with you all.

Cut Out Cookies

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 cup butter, softened

  • 2 eggs

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 2 tsp cream of tartar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

  • Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, and cream of tartar
  • Cut in butter
  • Beat together eggs, sugar, and vanilla
  • Combine two mixtures, adding flour until it is not sticky
  • Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
    *If you are adding food coloring to different parts of your cookies, separate into three separate balls to refrigerate.
  • Roll out on a floured surface, adding flour as needed.
  • Cut into shapes with cookie cutters
  • Bake 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees F
